Google Video Helps Up YouTube Traffic 18.5%
Hitwise’s Bill Tancer reports YouTube is already seeing the benefit of parent Google indexing it into its Google Video search last Thursday. Week to week, YouTube’s market share of U.S. internet visits rose to .64 percent from .54 percent, an increase of 18.5 percent.
How much of that was due to Google Video? On Wednesday, January 24, Google Video accounted for .73 percent of all YouTube traffic. On Saturday Google Video accounted for 8.68 percent of YouTube traffic. Wow, that’s quite a jump. Hitwise notes that MySpace is still the biggest provider of YouTube traffic, with 17.54 percent that day.
Weekdays and weekends are very different in internet time, but it’ll be interesting to see how far this trend goes. I’d also like to see what impact the change had on Google Video traffic — leading users to YouTube instead of keeping them around must have been subtractive.
