Hello Readers! You There? Talk to Us!

Dear readers,

Our little baby news site, NewTeeVee, turned two months old this week. We’d like to take this occasion to hit you up for a little bit of feedback. We’re having a blast doing what we’re doing, but it’s a work in progress and we want to make it better.

Here’s a few things we want to know. Please answer any or all of the questions in the comments, or if you prefer, email us at tips@newteevee.com.

What do you like best?
What are we missing?
As for content, do you want to see more web celebs and video picks, or more tech? What about other topics?
As for structure, how do you like the posting timing and frequency?

Keep up the good work, I think you’re doing great. I vote for more web celebs, those are always fun to read about. How about a “where are they now” follow up series too? Jackson’s lunch in LA series was cool.

I prefer more tech but balance is always good. I’m happy with the current layout/post frequency.

I like it! if anything, a bit too frequent for me to keep up and read all every time. The balance is good – more tech would be too much, plenty of that all over.

I’m an RSS reader tho, so not too fussed about the design (sorry) but respect for the full content feed. Suggestions – guest articles perhaps from ‘luminaries’…?

You’re probably my favourite feed in this space, because:
- RSS feed is full
- articles feel properly researched and written rather than just a sentence or two wrapped round a link or quote
- content is mainly text. Much as I love video, I don’t want to sit through 5 minute interviews to get my fix of news and rumour
- not too much US politics (I’m British)
BTW, I’m usually viewing you via Netvibes. YouTube embeds work. Embeds from many other sites, incl. MySpace don’t. I like your design, but I don’t care about it!

NewTeeVee quickly became one of my “must-read” sites. I just love what you’re doing, both content and frequency. Please don’t get tech-heavy; that’s amply covered elsewhere. You guys are covering content creators like nobody else, mixing in business + tech + goofy stuff . Perfect!

1) I like that you typically have several posts each day.
2) Missing links to really good video
3) Yes, more video picks
4) Timing is critical – news is best very fresh. I mentioned frequency in (1) above

Great blog, keep it up. I visit almost daily to keep up with industry news. The web celeb stuff is fun, but honestly, I usually skip those posts.

I like when you guys investigate viral videos like ‘Bridezilla’ though.

1. I like the industry news the best and read the posts on RSS most days. It’s sometimes too much for me to read, but I don’t mind that.
2. More interviews of video makers and entrepreneurs.
3. I like the focus to be on industry news and opinions rather than video picks. I would say that I’d like to see a rereview of Brightcove’s personal channels in a few months, but that would just be showing my bias. :)

Interview more people that don’t rehash ideas but are really innovative

Love what you’re doing here. It’s one of my few must-reads on Web-based TV and video along with nalts’s Will Video For Food, Usertainment Watch and Jeff Jarvis.

Again, I’m an RSS reader and have difficulty keeping up with all your coverage. Very detailed, well-researched, well-linked. I’m researching the field myself so I guess it would be interesting to have some more overall perspective on internet video and where you think it should be going.

I loved your recent piece on internet channels: it highlights the main reason why online video services haven’t seen wider adoption. Navigational aids such as TV magazines, on-screen guides, even adverts on TV help the viewer decide what to watch and remind them what they like. This function is still in its infancy online and yet the potential is there for it to be vastly improved and far more user-friendly than anything on OldTeeVee. Search and recommendation of online video is too dispersed and decentralised to easily make sense of what we watch. Huge potential here.

Overall: great balance, good tone, functional, timely but more suggestions of what you want to see in the future would be interesting.
