Get Your Own Video on TiVo
TiVo today added support for personal video, partnering with web-video-editing startup One True Media to introduce a “Home Movie Sharing” option to its lineup. The joint project will allow home movie makers to establish channels of their own content and invite friends and family to subscribe to get the latest content.
Presumably, the system would work for independent content makers who give their fans their Tivo channel information. It would be ideal if indies could apply a la iTunes to be included in the marketplace so new viewers can find them. Today’s announcement give a nice little free hack, but after April 30, a subscription to One True Media will cost you at least $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year.
TiVo currently includes some web video providers, such as Rocketboom, Break.com, and the Onion News Network (which is already great, btw). For a while now the company had a form up soliciting videoblogs, but we’re not sure what has come of that.
That’s not to say making personal videos creation and distribution easy isn’t useful and cool on its own (though the fee seems a little steep). TiVo and One True Media suggest their products could be used for “sharing a baby’s first steps or child’s birthday party;creating a tribute to Mom, Dad or grandparents; graduation; sharing post-game sports highlights with the team; or chronicling your summer vacation.”
