Go Stat Wild: February Video Traffic
Well, at least everyone can agree on one thing — YouTube dominates, and continues to grow its lead. In our third month of comparing video site popularity, we’ve rounded up February estimates from three of the top web analytics firms — Compete, comScore, and Hitwise (note: these are all U.S.-centric).
Compete, which we also tracked for December and January, continues to show a decline in share for MySpace Vids — 14.9 percent of sessions, down from 16.4 percent last month and 19.3 the months before — essentially treading water at 38.2 million sessions while the rest of the market grows.

Measurement, however, is frustratingly variable — the firms employ different techniques, survey different constituents, and give different metrics. comScore, in contrast, has MySpace down at number six.
comScore, comparing itself to itself, registers year-over drops for IFILM (which will soon be combined with SPIKE TV), eBaum’s World, and especially Heavy, which has apparently lost 38 percent of its unique visitors since last February.

Hitwise, a new entrant to our round-up, is the most firm on YouTube’s lead. The firm asserts YouTube sees 54.4 percent of visits to the top 50 online video viewing sites, with an additional 9 percent kept in the family by Google Video.

[...] You Tube was sitting pretty in February according to the three surveys cited by New Tee Vee today. In all three studies, You Tube was moving further ahead of the competition, in a way, actually, not that dissimilar from Google distancing itself from its rivals. My Space videos, which had been making significant headway a couple months ago, has lost momentum. Despite holding its number of sessions steady, My Space has not grown at the same pace as the rest of the market. [...]

Last I knew, the more video you serve, the greater your expenses. Does anyone have figures on revenue? Or, how about a ballpark average advertising revenue per stream? And what are current expenses per stream?
