Friday Vid Picks: May Day LA

The battle over immigration is becoming more and more heated, particularly in cities with large immigrant populations along the southern U.S. border. May Day has become an annual event for immigrants and supporters alike to gather and call for immigration reform. In Los Angeles’ MacArthur Park on Tuesday things turned ugly.

Local broadcasters and vloggers alike were on hand as witnesses and, somewhat unintentionally, participants. Warning: graphic violence and language.

This reporter from LA’s KTTV FOX 11 got caught in the melee defending her cameraperson from police batons.

Hat tip: Tim Shey.

Ask a Chola provides a short segment without voiceover narration that ends chillingly with a report from a firearm.

Here is some CNN footage from the event that bears silent witness and gives an eerily similar impression.

In a longer piece, the whimsically attired Jonathan Mann of GameJew gets caught up in the storm, and gives a running commentary from on the scene during the action, interviewing other citizens along the way.

Finally, progressive voice Democracy Now does an extended report which includes more first hand accounts of credentialed media assaulted on the scene.

  • Sickening. It’s too important for everyone to see these videos.

But I wonder how much money the revver video is making off of this victimization. But if it’s donated to ngos that fight against this nonsense, then all power to the creator.

  • I was actually at the event, and I thought it was very encouraging that there were so many people documenting everything with their cameras.

There was a little bit of tension going on inbetween the working press and citizen media activists …

… but I’m fairly certain that journalists will make use of amateur footage in their lawsuits against the LAPD, just as ordinary folks will depend on the TV footage for possible further legal proceedings.

  • The age-old pesky U.S.-Mexico border problem has taxed the resources of both countries, led to long lists of injustices, and appears to be heading only for worse troubles in the future. Guess what? The border problem can never be solved. Why? Because the border IS the problem! It’s time for a paradigm change.

Never fear, a satisfying, comprehensive solution is within reach: the Megamerge Dissolution Solution. Simply dissolve the border along with the failed Mexican government, and megamerge the two countries under U.S. law, with mass free 2-way migration eventually equalizing the development and opportunities permanently, with justice and without racism, and without threatening U.S. sovereignty or basic principles.
