Video Showdown: Game On
This is part of an irregular series where you, the readers, vote for your favorite of two similar videos.
If releasing the teaser trailer for your forthcoming game causes ripples across the online video ocean you’ve got a big game. Recently both these game trailers made waves. (embeds below, but I highly recommend watching them in higher def here and here)
Rockstar Games, Jack Thompson’s favorite whipping boy, had a countdown clock for this teaser trailer weeks before the release. With that hype, this video dropped on March 29, the same day stockholders ousted executives from Rockstar’s publisher, Take2).
The video is an homage to Godfrey Reggio’s Koyaanisqatsi, down to the Philip Glass soundtrack.
Blizzard Entertainment announced development of StarCraft 2 at Blizzard’s 2007 Worldwide invitational StarCraft tournament in the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, South Korea over the weekend.
During that time promotional videos of StarCraft 2 took up about half of YouTube’s “Most Viewed (Today)” section, with this trailer already topping one million views.

What about Team Fortress 2 and Portals? Those trailers were great. Although perhaps a little older

Star Craft = way better…. Not that I play video games, I just don’t even know anything about that other games after watching that movie…
