Submit Your Parody Video to Pier Screenings

We are ramping up quickly for the next Pier Screenings event, to be held June 19. It’s a rolling submission process, so the earlier you upload or embed your video the more time you’ll have for people to rate it. Definitely get it done before June 17, when voting closes.

The theme is PARODY, which we define quite loosely — from mashups to fan-made music videos to remakes. Think “Brokeback to the Future,” lip dub, or Angry Alien.

You don’t have to make anything special for the contest — prior projects are welcome. But please keep it under five minutes and don’t submit anyone else’s work. We will be screening uploads this time around to make sure you’re riffing on this theme — and also to make sure you’re not employing egregious amounts of copyrighted content.

If your video makes to the final six shown at the Pier Screening on June 19, you have a chance to win the Metacafe Prize for Best Audience-Voted Video. The live audience at the event will choose the top three winners for the night, which Metacafe will promote on its front page. That should bring in exposure as well as some dough – you can expect big page views from getting featured, and the company pays $5 for every 1,000 views.

To submit a video, you’ll need to register with Ning, which kindly helped us build the Screenings community site. First, go to http://screenings.newteevee.com and click on “Join NewTeeVee Pier Screenings Now!”

Once you enter in your signup information, look down on the left side of the page for the link to add a video.

If you don’t want to upload your video to Ning (which will host up to 100 MB for you), and would rather keep it where you’re already hosting it, that’s OK, provided you support embedded content. Click on the “Add Video” link over on the lower right, and you can add embed code from (we hope) anywhere around the web (not just YouTube or Google, as the messaging suggests).

If you’re not interested in submitting videos, and simply want to vote, more power to you. Just go to our current video page and sort through what’s been added most recently. Last month’s episodic content submissions are still up on the site if you’re looking for something else to watch.

And don’t forget to RSVP if you can make it to the live event.
