For Now Limelight Doesn’t Fear Akamai
Three weeks after Limelight Networks raised a whopping $240 million from the public markets, the content delivery network company got more good news: a court has said that Akamai could not patent the way files are delivered over the internet, thereby removing a big dark cloud from over Limelight.
Akamai, which is the biggest CDN player had sued Limelight, a year ago, alleging patent infringement. The court decision bumped up the stock by about $5, to over $20 a share, what many see as short-covering. Don’t count out Akamai, which has a history of fiercely protecting its patents.
