The interesting thing is that it doesn’t have to be a loss leader anymore – there are advertisers who want to reach Veracifier’s audience, and can pay enough to support what we do there. There are also grants available in the space, something people who want to do meaningful video online should be considering. Luckily, we have attracted some capital, and can focus on building that audience right now.

BTW, and FYI, Mrs. Farnsworth’s nickname was PEM, with an “e”, not Pam.

She was quite a lady… carried the torch right up until the very end. And still there are some who would douse her flame if they could.

What I see the problem with online video is that the only financially rewarding stuff to produce is often light on the intellectual side. There’s nothing wrong with giving people what they want, but there needs to be some balance in terms of making people think, as well.

And I’m not talking about the voyeuristic appeal of cam-phone footage from disasters, either — while compelling, it doesn’t add anything particularly substantial to even coverage other than as an eye-witness account.

Off the top of my head, Alive in Baghdad, Veracifer, Ryanne is Hungry, Holy Land TV, Ebb and Flow are thought-provoking, newsy and in-depth projects, but they are well in the minority and certainly not attracting capital like lighter fare.

But don’t you think that the growing piles of sketch comedy (and boobs) are giving more people content that actually is worth watching and relevant, if only to them?
