TechTV Lives — on Different Servers

Some of us who fall under the category of rapidly aging geeks still have a spot in our hearts for TechTV, the iconic cable network about technology that had fans if not profits (see tribute video below).

TechTV alums have gone their separate ways, but they can’t help making video for geeks, now using online distribution to reach their fans. Here’s a list of shows/videoblogs by TechTV alumni that you can watch on the web.

  1. Kevin Rose, who often showed up on The Screen Savers, is now doing DiggNation. He is also a co-founder of Revision 3, which is home to many former TechTV stars. (Disclosure: I co-host The GigaOM Show, which is co-produced with Revision3.)

  2. Funnyman Martin Sargeant is doing a show for Revision3 called Infected.

  3. Morgan Webb, who made video games alluring for TechTV, is now doing her own daily video show, WebbAlert.

  4. John Dvorak is the host of Cranky Geeks.

  5. Leo Laporte has TWiT and The Lab with Leo Laporte.

  6. Chris Pirillo is pushing UndoTV and live-streaming on Ustream.

Now there are other ex-TechTV folks who are doing their own thing. It would be nice if someone mashed up all their video RSS feeds and offered it up as TechTV 2.0.

  5. This just in from Digg.com:
    Patrick Norton leaves DL.TV
“Today’s episode will be his last gig as co-host of the popular tech podcast as he moves onto a new job.” Does anyone know what that job might be?

  6. Why would Revision3 be successful if Tech TV was a bust?

  7. Riley,

because unlike TechTV they are not spending on running a TV channel of the old TV kind. TechTV had to spend a lot of money on getting carriage on Cable and Satellite Systems and that skewed their cost structure.

The advertising at the time wasn’t there to support a Tech -only TV channel.
