Hulu Buys Mojiti?
TechCrunch this morning posted an unconfirmed story about Hulu, the online video project from NBC U and News Corp (NWS), acquiring video annotation service Mojiti for approximately $10 million.
We covered Mojiti in a roundup of video annotation services in December. At the time, the company was self-funded and had eight employees, all based in Beijing, though it was incorporated in the United States.
Competitors include Viddler, Veotag, Rakugaki, and BubblePLY.
The sourcing of the TechCrunch story isn’t incredibly convincing — something about an overheard conversation in an airport — but the site has been right before, scooping Google’s acquisition of YouTube, for instance. We have asked both Hulu and Mojiti for comment.
Update: Hulu spokesperson Christina Lee said she declined to comment on rumors and speculation.
