Which Shows Won on the Web in Premiere Week?
The NBC show Deal or No Deal received more than 15 percent of U.S. visits to television show web sites during the TV premiere week at the end of September, according to analysis emailed to NewTeeVee by web research firm Hitwise.

In second and third place were ABC’s Dancing with the Stars at 11 percent and NBC’s Heroes at 10 percent. Hitwise noted that six of the top 10 visited web sites were for scripted shows. Deal or No Deal and Dancing with the Stars, however, both have the advantage of offering live online participation tie-ins and airing multiple nights per week. (I must admit I personally have been egged on to keep tabs on geek hero Mark Cuban attempting the mambo on Dancing with the Stars.)
Hitwise’s figures are for web sites associated with shows, and don’t break out the popularity of streamed episodes, with which all the networks are now experimenting. But watching TV online after it’s aired doesn’t seem to be what’s drawing most web visitors, considering Deal or No Deal won the category despite not offering full episodes online.
As for total traffic, NBC.com and ABC.com had far more visits than any other network, with 37 percent and 30 percent, respectively, in the week ending Sept. 29. ABC’s number got a significant pop on the strength of its top shows, as it had only 23 percent of visits in the week ending Sept. 23., compared to NBC’s 48 percent.
Meanwhile, TiVo’s recently released list of its most-recorded shows has barely any overlap with the online favorites, with dramas like Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, House, Lost, and CSI in the top five. The only show figuring prominently into both lists is Heroes, which took sixth on TiVo’s list.

Hey Liz,
How do those numbers break down compared to online videos? Say, Chris Crocker’s Leave Britney Alone?

Well Tim, the thing is these are all page visitors, not video views. And on top of that, they’re a portion of a sample — the sites for 120 top TV shows — not even absolute numbers. So really the stats are only meaningful when you compare them against each other. Sorry.

[...] NewTeeVee reports on Hitwise numbers that show how the networks websites stack up. NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” is number one in market share. Their site is pretty cool: videos of the models, blog posts from producers. [...]
