AMD’s Got HDTV Dreams

From Akamai (AKAM) to tiny content creators, everyone is musing about bringing HD to Internet video. Yet they are only playing catch-up with the broadcast, cable and satellite TV companies, which have been offering HDTV for some time already — and since their programming has traditionally been hard to enjoy on personal computers — have recently started to ramp up their offerings.

Today, AMD (AMD) introduced a new series of tuners that allow you to watch HD video from old TV sources. The new offerings include ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo USB, ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo PCI Express, ATI TV Wonder 600 USB, and the ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable Tuner. The market for such products, while growing, still occupies a niche status. Still, I guess there are a lot of buyers in the dorm-room demographic.
