Etology to Torrents: No Ads for You!
Online advertising firm Etology will no longer serve ads to BitTorrent sites in its ad network, TorrentFreak reports. In an email sent out by the company to its BitTorrent clients, Etology wrote:
“Due to the legal implications involved with sponsoring torrent sites, our management team has made the decision to remove from our network torrent sites that promote copyrighted content.”
As TorrentFreak pointed out, the company probably doesn’t want to promote the sharing of copyrighted content, i.e. piracy. Advertisers are understandably skittish about associating themselves with the technology.
Just add it to the growing list of bad news for fans of P2P technology: Dozens of BitTorrent Sites May Be Shut Down because of increased regulatory pressure in the Netherlands, The Pirate Bay said it was moving away from the BitTorrent protocol, and, of course, Comcast was caught blocking BitTorrent traffic.
