Kyte Completes $15M Second Round
kyte.tv today announced a $15 million Series B round, part of which we scooped last week and most of which we’ve been reporting on as the company gathered it over the course of the year. Telefonica, Nokia Growth Ventures, DoCoMo, Swisscom, Holtzbrinck Ventures, Draper Fisher Jurvetson, and Draper Richards participated in the round. Previously, we’d covered all of these besides DoCoMo, though kyte (which is formally called decentral.tv) hadn’t let the amount get out until now.
With a major handset maker and three mobile carriers as its backers, kyte is increasingly looking like the carriers’ backend video streaming play. Combined with a $2.25 million Series A round, this brings the company’s total funding to $17.25 million. See the interview with kyte CEO Daniel Graf embedded below, which was made this afternoon by avid kyte user and unpaid evangelist Robert Scoble.
We’ve dinged kyte lately for its lack of live video streaming, something Graf’s been promising for as long as we’ve been talking to him. Scoble has commented that his loyalties are switching to Qik, the live mobile streaming company we covered last week.
