Ooyala Raises $8.5M More
Ooyala, a platform for video delivery and advertising, has raised $8.5 million in second-round funding led by Sierra Ventures, the company announced on its blog this week. That brings Ooyala’s total funding to $10 million, according to founder Bismarck Lepe.
Ooyala had taken first place in the Amazon Web Services Start-Up Challenge last month, winning $100,000 in cash and services. We profiled the company back in October. See an example/commercial for the company embedded above (sorry, we made the player quite small, but you should still be able to bump it up to full screen).
Credit where credit is due: VentureBeat had noted the funding earlier today, and paidContent first reported on it in December.

We didn’t “heard it rumored”…we reported on the facts on the funding…except for the amount, we had everything confirmed when we reported on it. If we report on a rumor, we say so in our stories…
Sounds interesting. Sports is always a great segment to initially go after – if you can get the commercial rights.
Will keep an eye on them. Any more information in the HD delivery aspects?
don’t see how ooyala going to compete against competitors such as Brightcove or Akamai on 8.5M. particularly since this round actually closed six months ago. DOA.
Sorry Rafat, I changed the wording.
Leopold, I agree that the competitors have way bigger warchests.
