Funding Still Flowing to Video Projects
We’re noting news of three more digital media companies raising funding today. Interestingly, considering current economic fears, none of these are advertising plays. Not to say other business models are recession-proof!
Invodo is yet another white-label video provider, but focused specifically on retailers and manufacturers. The Austin, Texas-based company has raised $1.2 million of a $1.5 million round, according to a regulatory filing uncovered by peHUB. The pitch is to reach out to customers with video at online points of sale by syndicating “product pods.” In addition to the tech stuff, Invodo will produce the video for you — click through to see an example product pod for XM Radio.
ImageSpan has raised a round of unnamed amount from Alan Patricof’s Greycroft Partners, Ron Conway’s Angel Investors LP, and Village Ventures. The Sausalito, Calif.-based company offers a licensing platform for video and images as well TurnHere-like web video advertising production service called CurbStream. See Beet.tv (ImageSpan interview embedded above) and VentureBeat for more.
Also, doubleTwist, the startup founded by hacker Jon “DVD Jon” Lech Johansen to combat restrictive DRM (and which we were first to write about in detail back in October 2006), launches Tuesday. The San Francisco-based company has raised a Series A round of an undisclosed amount from the top European VCs at Index Ventures. It makes a desktop media-sharing application that turns iTunes music purchases into MP3s and converts video files so they can be viewed on various devices. See the full story at GigaOM.
