Paramount Posts Clips to Facebook

Paramount Pictures said today it’s launching a Facebook application called Voo-Zoo that lets user watch clips of movies and send them to one another (the verb for this is apparently “VooHoo”: to send someone a Paramount video clip).

I’m surprised by the quality of the app, which was made by a firm called FanRocket; the design is ugly and the movies are kinda grainy. But it’s pretty cool that Paramount is going direct to Facebook, and an exec said the studio plans to eventually use the app to market upcoming releases. Right now there are just 122 clips available, from older movies like Zoolander, The Godfather and Grease.

Voo-Zoo is similar to online video greeting card company blinkBox (our coverage), which also has the support of some major studios.

Here at the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas, Facebook is mounting a major presence, throwing multiple parties, keynoting the conference, and flyering the town. The company held a workshop yesterday to introduce filmmakers to its Facebook Film pages, on which they can post clips and interact with fans.

Last night New York City startup Animoto won the film/TV category at the SXSW Web Awards, and today the company launched a music video creator for Facebook.
