YouTube Widgetizes
YouTube announced tonight it had expanded its developer tools to give outside web sites and software the ability to enable video uploads, among other features. Today, viewers can watch videos outside the site but have to return to the destination for most other activities. With the new APIs, quite a lot of interaction and customization will be able to occur elsewhere.
From the YouTube blog:
The number of possible new applications is endless. Electronic Arts has enabled gamers to capture videos of fantastical user-generated creatures from their upcoming game, Spore, and publish these directly into YouTube. The University of California, Berkeley is bringing free educational content to the world, enhancing their open source lecture capture and delivery system to publish videos automatically into YouTube. Animoto enables its users to create personalized, professional-quality music videos from their own photos and upload them directly to YouTube. Tivo is providing its users a rich and highly participative YouTube viewing experience on the television.
More info coming after we talk to the company tomorrow morning.

Hi,
Completely ignorant non-event, lacking fundamental innovation. What’s the bet every single idea they mention is only because so many big sites kept wanting them: “we want to see what you come up with” -because we’re so thick…lacking imagination……we will rip-off slide, facebook, joost, veoh, et al.
And yet how much free press-attention will they get, just like the phase google had 1+ year ago.
My most negative rant, because a company of its resources should be doing more, or stay quiet.
Yours kindly,
Shakir Razak

This sets the bar very high for other video sharing sites. I am extremely excited about this announcement. On our site, we have a very vibrant community, video search engine, and discovery channels that includes UGC, TV, and Music – YouTube is about 15% of that content. But in comparison to other video sharing sites, YouTube continues to be ahead in terms of user experience (i.e. extremely fast-loading videos) and flexibility (they’ve always had great RSS feeds and a great API – now it is even better).
