Viddyou Joins the HD Chorus
The world of online video is looking better every day, literally, as Viddyou has joined the ranks of those offering HD services. The personal video sharing site now supports 720p and 1080p HD video as a premium service for $35 year. And while Viddyou claims to the be the first of its kind to offer 1080p, its only the latest in a string of video companies to offer HD.
We covered Viddyou’s launch last year, and according to founder (and one half of the company) Aaron Wadler, since then the site has added 15,000 users, 20 percent of whom are active every week. He also said that roughly half of the videos are not public (putting the “personal” back in personal video sharing site) and there are nearly 30,000 posts on the site.
Viddyou’s not the only high-def game in town. Vimeo has supported 720p HD for a while, and recently started testing 30fps conversion, and last month Dailymotion added HD capabilities. And while it’s not HD, even YouTube offers a higher quality stream now.
