Veronica Belmont to Leave Mahalo Daily
Veronica Belmont announced on her blog today that she is leaving web startup Mahalo, where she hosts the Mahalo Daily video show. Belmont would not yet specify what her “exciting new projects” will be, but we’ll get back to you when she does.
Update: Belmont tells us via email:
“Unfortunately, there isn’t much more I can say about the projects themselves. They will be in the technology space, however, and based in the San Francisco area (which is definitely a plus – traveling back and forth was putting a bit of a strain on me). Mahalo Daily will continue to be produced with new hosts, and there’s certainly no bad blood there!”
Mahalo Daily had only launched in November; we broke the news last summer that Belmont was leaving CNet to join Mahalo. We’ll try to round up some viewership stats, but from where we sit it seems like the show’s efforts to condense footage from events like Steve Jobs’ Macworld keynote and the Academy Awards (e.g. “The Oscars in 60 Seconds“) have been among its most successful episodes. It’s a good public service that doesn’t require a charismatic host.
Regarding the viewership stats, Belmont tells us (again, via email) daily episodes receive 35,000 to 50,000 views through blip.tv, and up to 7,000 views on YouTube.
Mahalo Daily was meant to complement Mahalo’s larger project, a searchable guide to the web.

My guess is she’ll be joining Leo Laporte with his new Live video shows on the TWIT network.

Im sure Calcanis had his pants by his ankles like that creepy American Apparel owner. Calcanis gives up a similar vibe.
She on the other hand looks like every underage chick that comes into the valley trying to make it in ’showbiz’ and get to meet swell guys like Ed Powers and max Hardcore to bukakke her.
She plays the waif for the horny geeks to a T. Even better than Morgan whasthername….
Her ‘following’ is a bit creepy. I mean its creepy that all these people follow laporte,.scoble and others but Belmont Nation seems to crossover into Jordan Capri Nation as well.
Very ick.

it definitely makes it seem like Mahalo Daily as just a pit stop for her… kinda weird if you ask me.

Having just watched the latest dl.tv and Tekzilla, my bet is that she’s joining Revision3…

I noticed a commercial for dl.tv on the latest Cranky Geeks showed her looking very much like a perm dl co-host.
Interesting Calacanis is getting some pushback from feminists about the casting talk on his stream. Good. See queenofspain.com

You’re wrong Roberta. That’s probably fair to characterize others like that (Cali Lewis, Kendra Arimoto, and Justine Ezarik come to mind). But, Veronica Belmont is clearly not in that group though.
