Time Warner Cable to Offer PC-to-TV Device
Time Warner Cable will offer subscribers “a new wireless cable modem that will allow you to network everything in your house,” CEO Glenn Britt said at an investor conference on Friday, as Reuters reported.
“Right now it’s pretty hard to get Internet stuff on your TV,” he said. “Within a relatively short time … it’s going to be very easy to get Internet TV on your big screen TV.”
From the mouth of the U.S.’s second largest cable company (soon to be spun off from parent Time Warner), that means a lot. Time Warner can get into homes far more quickly than competitors like the Apple TV and the Netflix-Roku box. Britt said thinks such devices could be popularized within one to two years.
Britt, of course, isn’t a complete Internet TV convert. As we linked to in our headlines roundup this morning, in an extended interview with the Wall Street Journal (which doesn’t mention the hardware project), he said networks shouldn’t expect his company to pay higher fees if they are going to put content online for free at the same time. “People should think things through before they just go willy-nilly putting things on the Internet.”

Agreed. I was at Walmart today looking at their flyer and all of the flat-screen TVs were “PC ready.” I guess you just run a cable. This will be interesting.
