@Liz - America's Funniest Videos is Screened Content, and a separation of brand equity from the content - a big difference (although in the simplistic view it may seem to have parity with YouTube). And there is more to brand equity - copyrights on the content itself, which may or may not be legal in the YouTube case. A host of issues - none of which are as simple as your thesis.

@EM Not to be simplistic again -- but somehow America's Funniest Home Videos has stayed on the air since 1989!

Your simplistic view of the media business potrays in vivid color the ignorance that stimulates such thought.

Mark Cuban commentary was not a rant - it was one coming from a someone in the media business.

How about the ASPCA catching the viral video - and then going after the brand for animal cruelty because the video perhaps showed the cat getting it feet caught up between the boards. And then the brand has to go on the defensive and spend money saving face. We have all seen such situations in the past.

Piggbacking on Mark Mahaney from Citi is both stupid and a flawed attempt at self annointing credibility (and in the recent analysis Mahaney's credibility is defintely in question).
