Google to Recommend SpotMixer Video Ads
SpotMixer just let us know it will be the first self-serve online video advertising creation provider included in Google’s television ad toolset. It’s a coup for the new service, which is part of personal media startup One True Media, in terms of getting exposure to a larger audience.
SpotMixer will be listed among other “qualified professionals who can create your ad” in Google TV advertising setup process. The company doesn’t charge a fee to create ads, but charges at least $59 for every month an ad runs.
The move makes Google more competitive with Spot Runner, the startup that has quickly become the giant of the news sector of self-serve television advertising.
Redwood City, Calif.-based One True Media has $5 million in funding from Kleiner Perkins. Another competitor is Jivox, though that company is focused on video ads that run on the web, not television. The Kelsey Group recently forecast that the market for local online video ads would grow to $1.5 billion in 2012 from $10.9 million in 2007 (and that’s not including TV ads sold online).

I wonder who’s going to buy Ad Grinder?
The online TV/web video agency Cheap-TV-Spots will run rings around Google and Spotmixer for quality of message and price. Canned do-it-yourself ads from Google are a fad whose time has past. Look what happened to Spotrunner: Layoffs, executives leaving after a few months, 100 million wasted and no easy exit strategy. Pre-made template TV ads are one more example of a tech boondoggle to wow the gullible with smoke and mirrors and heaping helping of hype.
