YouTube Adding Geosearch (with Screenshot)
YouTube will soon add geosearch — giving viewers the ability to find videos tagged to a certain location — disclosed product manager Brian Glick at a developer talk at YouTube’s San Bruno, Calif., campus on Thursday.
Glick said the feature was currently “in limited experimentation,” and would be launched “really soon.”
YouTube added the option to geotag videos when they’re uploaded a little over a year ago, but didn’t offer a way to do anything with that information. Google Earth does offer geotagged YouTube videos, but only for a subset of selected videos.
Glick demoed looking up videos of the Bellagio’s fountains in Las Vegas by honing in on its address. Update: YouTube declined to give us a nice screenshot, as the feature’s looks might change before it launches, but we did grab a photo from our seat in the audience (see above).
