Brightcove to Power Japanese Olympics Coverage
On the eve of the Beijing Olympics, Brightcove’s new Japanese subsidiary, Brightcove KK, has signed a deal to power video for gorin.jp, the exclusive online video portal for the games in Japan. gorin.jp is the official Japanese Olympics web video portal run by Presentcast and put together by the major Japanese television broadcasters.
Brightcove KK, which only opened for business two months ago, has officially closed $4.9 million in funding from Dentsu, J-Stream, transcosmos and Cyber Communications, and hired Japanese web entrepreneur Hisashige Hashimoto as its general manager. Things must be going pretty well if after just two months the subsidiary can sign an exclusive local deal to power the hottest event of the year online.
We’re posting later tonight on where to watch the Olympics from the U.S. (Update: Post is here.) If you have any tips or tricks about where to watch from around the world, let us know.
