New Web Series Preps You for DTV Switch

We’re less than six months away from the Digital TV switch, and the push to get everyone on-board before their analog TV sets go dark is in full swing. While the FCC is going on a national tour to educate the public, trade pub Broadcasting & Cable and how-to video site MonkeySee have partnered to create an online web series to show you how to manage the DTV transition.

Sure, most NewTeeVee readers probably have a sweet television setup already and won’t be affected by the switch. But in May, Nielsen reported that 10 million people were completely unready for the upcoming analog TV signal shut-off on Feb. 17, 2009. Perhaps you know one of them. They could be a family member. A friend. Or someone living in your very home! (dunh, dunh, duuuunh!)

The six-part series covers the basics, including what the switch means for cable and satellite subscribers, types of televisions, how to select an antenna and how to connect a DTV converter box.

  • Wow. That’s pretty much the best way to make sure NO ONE watches the video. It’s so slow! It’s the kind of stuff they put on TV at 3 in the morning (while Hillary Clinton and John McCain wait for phone calls). There’s no way they can expect anyone to watch that. These are people who haven’t figured out their situation with the analog-digital switch… most are probably not that motivated (or don’t have the time) to watch such a boring, drawn out video.
