Ian, whoops, sorry. H.264 of course. Thanks for catching that one.

Regarding the encryption: It's likely it will be, but there are good reasons for the BBC to keep an unencrypted stream up as well, like the fact that the Wii's Flash Light / 7 player doesn't support Adobe's DRM.

Yes, it is all H.264 these days..
But you are correct. If encrypted, that means a proprietory Adobe technology around it.

I am very happy to see BBC doing this as it IS the future everyone else is trying to stifle as "they" want to become a part of it and clip the ticket. Unlike Microsoft, Adobe seem to be happy to sell the full solution, meaning. Adobe gets a hi-priced sale, and service contract, but does not really have clip the ticket type access. I am not sure if Silverlight product offer the same? I imagine Microsoft Cable solutions do not.

In any case, this leads me to mention how I was at a conference with a ABC (Australia) which is considered a smalller brother of the BBC, and how it dropped Silverlight as its future of its content distribuion online.

When you say H.246 don't you really mean H.264?

It is likely that the flash stream will be encrypted, this requires Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server. I would think this is the reason BBC have moved to Level3.
