Jericho Finally in its Proper Resting Place: YouTube

Jericho, the ratings-challenged CBS show that got two lives courtesy of fan outcry on the web, popped up on YouTube over the last couple weeks. We noticed the addition when we were researching another story yesterday.

jerichoyoutubeThe show, a post-nuclear strike drama about a small Kansas town, was canceled after its first season. After vocal fan outcry, CBS brought it back for a short run, but still failed to draw a significant audience, and was canceled again.

Now Jericho has found a new home where its fans live — on the web. CBS posted nearly every episode of the series to YouTube in recent days. But so far the audience for them has been minimal — many episodes have yet to break 100 views. As we commented yesterday, the way CBS’ YouTube profile buries content isn’t exactly conducive to viewer discovery.

Jericho is also available elsewhere online, for example on Joost and CBS.com. However, YouTube is the people’s video site.

  • I heard that there will be a movie eventually too for Jericho. Looks like Skeet might have some spare time until then considering one his current Evri connections is Cuba Gooding from the classic film (ahem) Chill Factor – http://www.evri.com/person/skeet-ulrich-0×1a895.html

  • Even though there are no new episodes of Jericho, we are all still here in the cyber world, chatting with each other about Jericho and making new friends. All of the Jericho websites are gaining new members each and every day especially since in other countries, they are finishing up with season 2 and realizing season 3 is not being made. They are as shocked as we were, but yet we are all still here and re-watching together. We will never give up. We are Jericho Rangers

  • I watch Jericho daily on CBS.com, spend time on many Jericho websites meeting new fans, share my dvds with lots of people, and I have not given up the hope that Jericho will come back. As for watching Jericho on Youtube,I really want to but I am having technical difficulties. I always get an error message saying my player is out of date even though I have just downloaded it.

  • Thanks for taking a look at Jericho on youtube. I just wanted to let you know that the Jericho Rangers are still out here fighting for the show. We watch the show at CBS on Tuesday nights when it aired during it’s last season. We also watch on UHD where it airs multiple times a week and have discussions on the UHD Jericho board about the episode that we are watching. Others watch at FanCast as well. These are all legal sites that CBS has approved to show the series.
Jericho was continually the number 1 download from ITunes when each episode became available. Check out Google ratings for Jericho hits. Also while you are at youtube check out all of the fan videos that have been made and the number of viewings that they have before you make the assumption that Jericho has gone to rest. As kedzucat said we are Jericho Rangers and we never give up.

  • The fans of JERICHO are still here and fighting hard for season three. For many of us this is where we make our stand and say we’ve had enough. We want quality programming.

Keep your eye on Universal HD for our fan made Save Jericho commercial to air this month nationally.

    No rest till season three!

The fight continues on the CBS and UHD boards.

  • Comments on this post are very interesting. Obviously there’s a passionate community out there. (There must be some way to monetize that!)

I’m not a Jericho Ranger but I thought season 1 was good. Season 2, not so much. I guess some people get really passionate about their TV shows with certain shows hitting different people in unique ways. I’m more of a Browncoat myself…

I remember the rumor years ago about the kid who jumped off a bridge because he was upset that they canceled Battlestar Galactica. Looking back I guess he shouldn’t have done that. He might have enjoyed the revival. Never give up hope, or to put it another way – NUTS!

  • “Video not available in your country” – oh well – it may be on YOUR tube, but not MyTube :(
