I haven’t seen many Sanyo products in the shops for years so it makes good business sense to merge Panasonic with Sanyo. Sanyo’s specialist expertise in producing rechargeable batteries for mobile phones and laptop computers would compliment Panasonic’s product line.
Update, Panasonic had planned to make Sanyo its subsidiary by the end of March through a tender offer, but this could be delayed to summer as global regulators study the impact their merger will have on the battery market.
