Weekend Vid Picks: Just One Last Post About Election Comedy, We Promise

So, um, I guess some people were saying that that election-themed videos would, starting Wednesday, literally be yesterday’s news. Man, how stupid were those people? Right? Right?

But to my credit, the tone of discourse has changed with the conclusion of the campaign. College Humor released one of their typically well-produced satires on Tuesday, a hedging-their-bets guess at what happens If The Other Party Wins. It’s a pretty vicious parody of both sides of the political spectrum, and not at all conducive to supporting a message of unity. But it’s also really, really funny.

And the Onion News Network takes aim at Obama protestors — specifically, the really obnoxiously dedicated ones — with a news bulletin tastefully entitled Obama Win Causes Obsessed Backers To See How Empty Lives Are. It seems needlessly harsh, though, and it’s nowhere near as funny as Onion’s Wednesday headline — Kobe Bryant Scores 25 In Holy S*** We Elected A Black President.

But these represent the last gasps of a two-year, multimillion-dollar process that left us with our first black president. And personally, I’m looking forward to this new phase for our country, where we as a nation can focus on what matters: rebuilding our economy, improving our relationship with the global community, and making ridiculous Wrestlemania parodies.

God bless America.

  2. Good day!

Although not exactly relating to the thread please allow me, dear friend, to tell you of the newest home of British comedy on the online.

English For Dirty Foreigners is the only show on the internets that will lie to you outrightly about British language, traditions, customs and stuffs.
Oh yes, we have many stuffs.

  3. I hadn’t seen a couple of these videos before. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again–there is nothing that helps tv comedy out more than a heated electoral campaign. With Tina Fey’s Palin videos getting something like 50 million online views.

The insanity of politics is fuel for Jon Stewart, SNL, and even David Letterman. This year the increasing popularity of “all things political” resulted in new shows (of varying quality) like Chocolate News and D.L. Hughley’s show on CNN (??!!).

Politics is big business for tv comedy and cable networks especially. Frankly, comedy is one of the best ways to find out what’s going on–or at least it’s the most entertaining way.
