You Suck at Photoshop
Never has depression been so much fun, or funny or educational. Somehow the sad travails of Donnie Hoyle in You Suck at Photoshop captured the attention of the online world as his wife left him, he lost his job and generally just fell apart. Imagine if he found out that he didn’t really exist.
You Suck was a rare event in web series: It was truly hilarious, it was totally different than anything else out there (neither a news show or a spoof) and it was informative. Created by Big Fat Brain, which is Matt Bledsoe and Troy Hitch (two advertising guys living in Kentucky), You Suck was told through actual Photoshop tutorials. Along with Donnie’s pain you learned about warp and distortion tools. As if to punctuate the dual aspect of the show, You Suck at Photoshop won two Webbys: one for best comedy and the other for best how-to site.
Hitch and Bledsoe even extended the Donnie myth on to other platforms. They put up a “real” auction for his wedding “ring of infinite sorrow” on eBay, and Donnie has his own Facebook profile.
The first season of the series generated roughly 8 million plays and spawned a sequel, as well as the spin-off Sn4tchbuckl3r’s Second Chance.
