[...] NewTeeVee reports that Sonic Solutions is acquiring online movie download service CinemaNow. Sonic Solutions, maker of the Roxio line of media applications and Qflix DVD-burning software, said today that it has agreed to buy privately held online movie distributor CinemaNow. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but CinemaNow is probably breathing a sigh of relief. While the company has been around for almost a decade, and even had the financial backing of big names such as Microsoft, Cisco and Lionsgate, it just couldn’t capitalize on its first-mover status in the movie download business.

I would have to wonder how many of the agreements that Cinemanow has in place with hollywood studios for content are either up for renewal or have expired? If this is the case did SONIC buy CinemaNow for the content or the backend aka BlockBuster/Movielink.

I haven't yet rented a full movie from Cinema Now but I did watch a free trailer and it works great. They appear to use Windows Media Player 10. You can override the streaming bit rate if required which is a nice feature. Check out this Incredible Hulk trailer and be sure to click on the full screen button:
http://www.cinemanow.com/wmp.aspx?skuid=333139&bitrate=700

Of all the options out there, Cinema Now is my pick!

Interesting...! For clarification, Sonic also bought Roxio and CinemaNow was originally created by LionsGate.
