Vizimo Acquires TIOTI

Here’s a tiny morsel of an acquisition for you this Friday. Cramlington, UK-based Vizimo has acquired London-based TIOTI, an online video guide startup we’ve been covering since the first days of NewTeeVee. The price was not disclosed.

Vizimo uses a combination of factors, including collaborative filtering and semantic analysis, to recommend content and relevant advertising. It has launched a consumer mobile application and is also building on other platforms. TIOTI (“Tape It Off The Internet”) indexes torrents and streams and also uses some social features. According to the release, Vizimo will use TIOTI as its interface, or “shop window,” to demonstrate and test new tools.

Both startups are small, though TIOTI actually has more funding to date and has been around longer. TIOTI raised a “seven-figure” Series A round from Pond Venture Partners in October 2007, while Vizimo took in a $650,000 seed investment in January 2008. But TIOTI has fewer than 100,000 users, according to a representative of Vizimo.

Vizimo said it would keep TIOTI up and will redesign it to incorporate Vizimo technology within the next three months.
