BuddyTV Combines Fantasy Sports and Reality TV
Now here’s a bright idea: BuddyTV, a TV community site, today introduced a fantasy league for reality TV shows. People who prefer American Idol to American football can now get their competitive thrill on from the comfort of their couch. And it’ll be a heck of a lot more fun than spending their days refreshing gossip threads on message boards.
BuddyTV is already a pretty huge site, with 6 million unique visitors and 90 million page views per month. Today it launched fantasy TV leagues for American Idol, Survivor, The Amazing Race, America’s Next Top Model, Hell’s Kitchen, Rock of Love, Make Me a Supermodel and Dancing with the Stars.
BuddyTV CEO Andy Liu tells us that elements borrowed from fantasy sports include “selecting eliminations each week prior to the show, scoring points automatically, leaderboards, and near-real time analysis.” There are also private and public options so people can compete against their friends and coworkers or the world.
