The 2009 Online Video Webby Award Nominees
We’re in the middle of the online video version of awards season. Hot on the heels of the recently concluded Streamys, the nominees for the 2009 Webby Awards were announced today. Here’s a breakdown of some of the competition (be sure to cast your vote for the People’s Voice Award, voting ends April 30), for a full rundown, visit the Webby Awards Nominees.
For Best Animation, 23/6’s Get Your War On will go up against Better than Prince by Soixan7e Quin5e, NYTimes.com’s The Animated Life – Newscycle, MTV’s Perfectland and Atom.com’s Stickman Exodus.
In the Best Writing category, Web Therapy from Is Or Isn’t Entertainment, The Onion News Network, Prop 8 the Musical, Puppy Love by AB BABY Productions and ABC.com’s Ugly Betty Presents: Mode After Hours will compete against each other.
The Comedy: Long Form or Series category is dominated by well-known names including: The WB’s Childrens’ Hospital, NBC.com’s The Office: The Outburst, The Weekly Evils from MTV, Today Now from The Onion News Network and My Damn Channel’s You Suck at PhotoShop.
The Drama: Series category was a bit more rounded out with NBC.com’s Heroes: The Recruit, IQ-145 Productions’ IQ-145, http://quarterlife.com/theshow/view, Speedie Date from Hackelheimer Productions, and Filmaka’s The Ten Commandments of La Vida Loca.
The Webbys do require entrants to pay to apply, but regardless of your stance on that issue, there are some deserving folks spotlighted on this list. Will The Onion clean up like it did last year? Will attendees have as much fun at this year’s event as the Lizzes did last year? Maybe we’ll find out during the Webby Awards Gala on June 8 in New York City (SNL’s Seth Meyers is back to host the event).

also, my favorite viral from last year, beaker’s “ode to joy” nominated in the music category . . . which is really hilarious next to more serious music endeavors from pitchfork and oasis.
Thank you for giving me a reason to watch that again, caslab!
